Game Directors Panel!
The Game Directors Panel I hosted at One Voice is already a distant memory.
I was joined by a delightful group of people made up of Gina Thompson, Natalie Winter, Natalia Hinds and HaZ Dulull.
And boy, did they share some nuggets of gold.
These guys have years of experience in the Games Industry under their belt and provided some incredibly useful insights.
Here are a few of my key take-aways:
👾 Be yourself. Hone your craft and get comfortable with where you sit in the industry. Don't try to be someone or something you're not. This goes for accents as well as specialist skills.
👾 Get additional coaching and training in screaming and vocal combat. It's a huge part of acting for games and your voice is your whole job. Don't risk losing it.
👾 No egos allowed. Making a game is a collaborative effort. The game devs, writers, sound engineers, directors and actors work together to make something great. Be a team player.
👾 When starting out, you don't need massive production value on your demos, what matters is a connected and versatile performance. Start by building your range of characters and get comfortable in the genre before forking out for a top-shelf demo.
And my favourite quote of the day from Natalie Winter:
"I love Actors who are willing to come in and let their little goblin out" 🥳
If you watched the panel, what was your favourite moment?
Thanks again to Gravy For The Brain for providing a platform to have these brilliant conversations.
