Thank you for the music!

If you produce voice-over content, for corporate videos, commercials, social media content...do you send your voice talent the background music?

From my own experience, it's about a 50/50 split.

Some producers send me the music track, or even a rough cut of the final video, without me having to ask.
Some are able to send it once I ask for it.
Some haven't decided on the music yet.
Some send me another video as a reference for tone and style....

If you do have the music or visuals available, please send them to us.
It can make such a huge difference to our tone and pace.
The music can completely change the feel of a piece.

In the below video, I recorded the first few lines of a corporate script to two different pieces of music.
Hear the difference in my delivery?

Without the music, my performance probably would have sounded a lot more "generic", a mix between the two.
Of course the writing style of a script can inform the delivery.
But the music is what really gives it colour.

In very few cases, I have even been sent music for auditions, which is even more of a dream!

So next time you hire or audition voice talent for a project that has music in the background, please do send it over together with the script.
